Aral Balkan · Getting started with Django on OS X
I've started setting aside a few hours every night to try new things. Two nights ago, I felted. Last night, I played with my Arduino board and light sensors. Tonight, I wanted to play with Django. I use the term "play" loosely. The problem is that there's no easy way to get started with Django. You have to jump through a few hoops to prove that you're truly worthy. I can't help but compare that to how easy it is to play with PHP (install MAMP, WAMP, or XAMMP and Bob's your uncle; you're up and running with Apache, PHP and MySQL in a single-click.) Similarly, Rails had Locomotive in Tiger and apparently comes pre-installed in Leopard (that's not enough to make me go back to Tiger after downgrading.) -
Looking to get started with Apache, PHP, MySQL, Python, Django on a fresh Mac... - Stack Overflow
I've looked for other questions, but could not find any... I have freshly installed my Mac with OSX 10.5. I need to learn Python/Django for a new job, so want to set it all up correctly, ready to develop and run from my browser using http://localhost/ I come from a PHP background and always used MAMP before. But I want to get everything working together... Apache, PHP, MySQL, Python, Django. Using MAMP is easy to install a local development server, but I want to get Python and Django running nicely too. So I can just start developing and also following tutorials on Python/Django. Please give me some steps (with MAMP or not) to get a nicely working environment for Apache, PHP, MySQL, Python and Django. Thank you, all have great days! -
Typeoneerror - Articles - Install and Deploy Django with MAMP using mod_wsgi
Getting Apache ready for serving Python applications seems to really be a headache. mod_python seems relatively easy, but the preferred mod_wsgi seems to give everyone headaches. I wanted to serve my python applications using MAMP since it's part of my daily workflow. I found a decent solution that is working really well for me with MAMP on OSX (Leopard). You may want to check out my previous post on installing and managing a basic OSX Django Stack before reading this one. Installing WSGI To install WSGI, you need to compile it against the version of Apache you'll be using it with. MAMP's current packaged version of Apache is 2.0.63, which is not super new, but will do. If you're like me and you just installed the MAMP binary instead of downloading the source code...well, then you don't have the Apache source code for 2.0.63, do you? So, let's get it! -
MAMP and Django | Chris Gilmer Project Blog
At work I’ve recently completed a year long project with altimetry data and am moving on to work with the Mars Science Laboratory. I have a hand full of projects that I think would be better served with web databases than the old Excel spreadsheet paradigm that people seem to love so much. This brought me to a great crossroads. I could quickly build and deploy websites to handle my number crunching work, do it faster than compiling even more spreadsheets, and in the end give a whole new tool to my project. I liked this idea so I’ve begun to pursue it. I have recently been involved in a love affair with Django. It’s robust, responsive, and allows me to quickly build things that integrate with existing python scripts that I have floating around. The problem was that I’m used to doing my development with an actual MySQL database on hand, not the sqllite3 that comes preinstalled with python. Solution? Install a MAMP Server stack on my laptop so I could develop like I would deploy. -
